STUDIO UPDATE - SPRING 2022

Mapping out all of the elements for You Are Not Alone Across Time.

Ooooh, friends! It has been a minute! Winter always gets me and I tend to crawl into a tiny cocoon and not emerge with online news until Spring.

Despite my radio silence, things are indeed moving and shaking in the studio! I’ve been spending a majority of my time on my latest installation You Are Not Alone Across Time. This work and its title are drawn from a quote by Bryan Doerries as he speaks about his community-specific, theater-based projects that address pressing public health and social issues through dramatic readings of seminal plays:

“I would go so far as to suggest that
audience members are, in a way,
healed by the realization that
they are not alone in their communities,
not alone in the world,
and not alone across time.”

With all of the hardships that have come to the forefront of our lives over the past two years, I have oddly found solace in this concept that others have been in similar circumstances before and we are not alone in this time. Further, we won’t be alone in the time to come. And those that follow after us will not be alone because we’ve been here before them. And the circle that connects us continues to turn.

In the end, the work will span over 30 feet in length and about 4.5 feet wide, made up of 27 individual pieces that flow together like loosely shaped puzzle pieces. Wowieeee! It’s a big endeavor, but one I am so happy to be taking on. This big installation gives me the chance to spend more time with my work and meditate on the concepts that it was originally born in.

Do I have a place that I know it’s going to be shown or installed yet? Nope. But I’m clinging to the hope that if I make it the building/show will come. Keep tabs on my instagram to see how it’s going!

Stay connected and hopeful, friends.
